Support a young person

In 2009, Freewheeling included, by way of supportive financial contribution from individual donors, two dozen young people between the ages of 18 and 25 years, from different low income townships.

Candidates were selected in collaboration with partnering nonprofit organisations, including

  • students and facilitators from Educo Africa
  • students from TSiBA (Tertiary School in Business Administration)
  • community peer educators from MaAfrika Tikkun
  • students of Elsenburg Agricultural College

In 2010 the youth contingent will be substantially increased, funding permitting.

The purpose of this programme of youth involvement is to

  • Expose young people to future-thinking, and engage them in dialogue and learning conversation with leading edge contributors in a variety of fields. In this way to bring in the voice of the youth and help them recognise their capacity to ‘make a difference’.
  • Begin to build a core network of youth leaders and potential role models to broaden the capacity for conscious living and sustainability amongst their peers, families and communities.
  • Transfer of learning and specific skills and tools in a broad range of sustainability-related fields.

The 2010 Festival will feature specific presentations by youth on the world they are inheriting and their ideas and innovations, as well as youth-on-youth forums to grapple with future-thinking issues. The youth voice is a vital component of the event.

Cost to sponsor one young person:  R 2895
This includes tuition, accommodation, food and transport, as well as a one-day integration workshop following the festival.
